Not Creative? I Got You!

Updated: Aug 6

Creativity is oddly hard to come by nowadays. Really says a lot...

It is also one of the best skills a person can have. Just because you might not have a great or a creative mind at all doesn't mean you can improve.

The greatest at anything started at the bottom which gave them motivation to pursue it.

A good example is Kobe Bryant, he started off being horrible at Basketball, mentioning a story where he didn't score one point in a summer basketball program and now, he's known as potentially a top 3 player of all time.

So how can we improve our creative mind?

Time Usage

Before hopping in a time taking task think about you doing that task. Wonder how long it's going to take and think of the benefits before hopping into that task.

Want to hop on your phone? Well think about how long that you will likely spend on your phone, an hour minimum likely.

Now try to half that time than use the rest of that time to replace with a creative hobby. Most of us don't really know what a creative hobby is. People think it always has to be creating something new. Yes and no.

Most of us don't have pottery or can't really do woodworking which, I can't either. Some of us might not even like drawing.

So, let's take a different look at creativity and the hobbies you can incorporate.

Hobbies

Do literally anything. Just start, no music, no phone just play as if you were a kid.

Kinetic Sand? Perfect!

Board Games? Perfect!

Puzzles? Amazing!

Legos? Awesome!

Just play with things that don't allow you to take in information.

Let your brain focus on one thing and build around it. Branch ideas off that thing.

Building a puzzle? Not challenging enough?

Make a tower with the puzzle pieces. Play around with things that aren't meant to be used in that way (without breaking it or endangering anyone please).

Scribble

Paper + Pen = Soon to be black paper. Unless you have color and would prefer that.

Just scribble, go crazy.

Again, no music, no phone, no nothing but a pen, paper, and something to write on.

Just go crazy.

Cool now try and transform that into something. It doesn't have to be real. In fact I'd advise against realism. Just come up with something.

There doesn't even have to be a reason for anything maybe just mess around for fun because who's going to judge you and honestly who cares?

Congrats! Now you made whatever that is...feel proud? Well, you should because that's already better than 25% of the world maybe more.

A study showed that many people (can vary) don't even use paper and pens anymore even though they help envelop the creative mind! paper and pen is all you need to make a whole different fictional world!

Now you're interested right?! You can do whatever you want, the definition of creativity!

So, by just making a mess you became smarter! Congrats!

Gaming!

Finally, something you've been waiting for! Get on Minecraft people! Go play those sandbox games and go watch some Game Theory because these open new ideas that you've never likely thought of help embrace the creative mind!

I can just about guarantee you every video you watched on Game Theory you've learned something new.... even if you forgot it...

Learning something new is a huge portion of creativity whether it's original or not. It boosts your knowledge and expands possibilities which is what creativity is! Creating something out of nothing.

Maybe even write some fun facts you found on Game Theory or cool builds you made on Minecraft, have a competition have fun! Just because you're trying to improve yourself doesn't mean it needs to be 100% grind.

Part of the grind is having fun so make sure that you are enjoying yourself, especially if you want to be consistent.

Many studies show that curiosity and enjoyment are two great contributors for motivation and learning so make sure you're having fun!

Don't force yourself to play something just because it boosts a skill because there are many things out there that you can do, you likely just haven't found it yet.

Decorating

Decorating is fun and you can't change my mind.

Decorating literally means; "make (something) look more attractive by adding extra items or images to it:". Who doesn't love attractive things.

Find something plain and boring and get coloring! (With permission).

Boring plain white-water bottle, eh, it would look better if it had some flowers on it or crazy decorations!

Plus bringing in a colorful original water bottle to school is so much more fun and you feel genuinely proud of yourself so win-win.

If you're into it (and have permission) decorate your walls! Especially if you have a study room, reading area, or something that is used for quiet time, decorating it makes the task seem more fun, more enjoyable and more exciting while reducing stress!

Color does lower stress. By bringing that colorful water bottle to school, you got your own stress reduction...thing!

ENJOY IT!

Enjoying something is what sparks creativity so make sure you're having fun or at least find the benefits of said task even if it seems daunting.

Running a mile? First off good luck, second good job you're boosting your heart and cardio and stamina!

Finding the benefits also allow your mind to look at a new perspective which can also enhance the mind.

Writing this blog all of these are improvised so I am probably boosting my creativity (don't worry they're still reliable).

Try to incorporate at least one and don't just pick gaming and use it as an excuse. Try to limit your time because giving your brain a rest is a major part of creativity.

Maybe incorporate a 1-minute meditation every two hours or something because it's literally only a minute, or less than 0.1% of your day.

So have fun and think for crying out loud!
